In partnership with Chase Kahwinhut Earles, other Indigenous instructors, and Caddo citizens, Caddo Mounds State Historic Site has launched a variety of cultural revitalization projects—including grass house construction, the revival of Caddo basketry, and the resurgence of traditional Caddo pottery.

Becky recently participated in Chase Earles’ Caddo pottery workshop series at the site and has since continued her practice as a Caddo pottery artist. Becky lives in Washington State. She creates her pieces using traditional methods: hand-dug, hand-processed clay; hand-coiled and shaped; stone-burnished and pit-fired. Her work features etched and incised designs that reflect both ancestral motifs and inspiration drawn from the natural landscapes of the Caddo homelands.

Caddo pottery was once widely recognized throughout the Southeast, but by the 20th century, it had nearly disappeared due to forced relocations and cultural suppression. Today, Caddo pottery, along with weaving, foodways, and language, is being revitalized through the dedication of tribal members. Becky is honored to begin reclaiming her place in these traditions, learning the language and ways of her people.

She offers her heartfelt thanks to Chase Earles for his tireless efforts in reviving Caddo pottery and for generously sharing his knowledge—from clay harvesting to firing—over the course of a year. She also honors Jeri Redcorn, whose pioneering work reignited the Caddo pottery revival and reminded the community of this rich artistic heritage.

This program is offered in partnership with the Friends of Caddo Mounds and the Nacogdoches Arts Collaborative.

Funding for Caddo Cultural Revitalization projects has come from TXDOT, the Summerlee Foundation, the Texas Historical Foundation, TC Energy, the Friends of Caddo Mounds, the Texas Historical Commission, and numerous individual donors.
