Would you like to know what to do when someone you know might be suicidal? The Muskegon County Democratic Party and HealthWest are partnering to offer QPR training on Saturday December 6 from 2-4PM at the CIO Hall, 490 W. Western Ave, Muskegon, MI 49440. There is no cost but we are asking people to bring a food donation to go to a local food pantry.
QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer. It is an evidence based suicide prevention training program that teaches you how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis, establish a dialogue, and guide someone to seek professional help.
Question: You learn how to directly ask someone if they are thinking about suicide.
Persuade: You learn how to offer hope and encourage the person to seek help.
Refer: You learn how to connect the individual with appropriate resources and professional help.
Who can benefit from QPR training? Anyone who wants to be prepared to help someone in a suicide crisis. This includes parents, friends and neighbors, educators, ministers and clergy, health care professionals, first responders, office supervisors, squad leaders and foremen, advisors and caseworkers, eldercare professionals and pharmacists, and anyone who cares about others.
