Scouts BSA Troops 1053B & 1053G are answering the call from Muskegon County Parks and Muskegon Conservation District to help plant 500 tree seedlings at Dune Harbor Park before the ground freezes.

We need your help in this race against Old Man Winter!

WHEN:  Sat, Dec 6, 2025, 10am - Noon 
WHERE:  Dune Harbor County Park, Lincoln Street parking lot, which is well-plowed with on-site porta-jon.  (3071 Lincoln Street, 49441).

‼️IMPORTANT‼️: Dress for the weather: boots, gloves, hat, layers. Forecast = 29°F, wind 11mph (feels like 20°... i.e., Michigan tree weather ). ?️❄️??

WHAT TO BRING: All tools/materials/supplies will be provided by Muskegon County Parks Dept, Muskegon Conservation District, and Troop 1053 except for two (2) things. Please bring:
   •  a SNOW SHOVEL
   •  a CAN of CLEAR CHICKEN SOUP

We'll wrap up at noon with bread and a hot bowl of soup plus hot cocoa or coffee. ☕?

No soup?  No snow shovel?  No problem!  Come out anyway! 

If you're a Scout (or parent), feel free to bring a friend from school or church, a neighbor, or family members. Great way to introduce someone to what Scouts do!  Be part of the land reclamation of this former industrial site in the key Lake Michigan migratory flyway and critical dune ecosystem.

RSVP not mandatory... but very helpful.

Applicable recognition for Scouts:
      •  2 hours conservation service time, applicable toward  A) rank advancement to Tenderfoot (1hr rqd) or Second Class (2 hrs rqd)  or First Class (3 hrs rqd) or Star (6 hrs rqd) or Life (3 hrs ConsSvc rqd);  and B) the National Outdoor Badge for Conservation.
      •  Soil and Water Conservation Merit Badge; requirement 7.b. Plant 100 trees, bushes and/or vines for a good purpose.    
      •  Conservation Good Turn Award, individual Scout  (Troop 1053 will purchase a patch for any/every Scout giving two hours service to this project.)
      •  Conservation Good Turn Award, unit   (If your unit has at least 1 Scout & 2 eligible Scouters participate, submit this as your own unit activity (assistance as needed).
      •  Scouting for Clean Waterways, unit activity  (same requirements as above)
