Women and girls are often deprived of their rights to education, information, technology, the means of production such as land, as well as owning property even where the constitution and some laws provide room for gender equality. The outdoor and tourism industry in Tanzania is predominantly a male dominated environment - as well the whole society in Tanzania and other African countries generally is.Wander Woman Tours founder and head guide Ekeney has broken through these barriers to become the first female porter, next the first female guide and now the first female tour operator in Kilimanjaro summit history. All of the guides, cooks and porters on our adventure are local women passionate about what they do and can offer to the world. We support women of the Kilimanjaro region by giving them a chance to work in the tourism sector and become economically more independent through a safe work environment and fair wages. As a woman founded enterprise based in Colorado, L ife's 2 Short Fitness is proud to be partnering with Wander Women Tours to combine forces and organize adventures for women across the globe who seek to learn more, do more and dream big and give back to those who raise up to give us hope for a brighter future.Y ou can read more about WWT and Ekeney's story .A bout your local L2S guide, Kriste Peoples:Kriste Peoples is a Denver-based outdoor enthusiast and guide, runner, writer, and mindfulness meditation teacher. As a UESCA-certified trail running coach for L2S (and head coach of our beginner course), she shares her passion for outdoor engagement, fitness, and inspiring new narratives of adventure. As a leader in Colorado’s BIPOC outdoor community, Kriste offers talks that address increasing the representation of people of color in nature. She has facilitated workshops, participated in panels, and delivered online trainings at conferences that include NOLs Risk Management, PGM One, Outdoor Retailer, REI, Summit Sisters, and more. She serves on the board of Running Start nonprofit, an organization dedicated to helping women overcome obstacles to fitness and is a proud member of the American Trial Running Association board. As a founding member and Program Manager of the Women’s Wilderness Trailblazers program, she creates nature-based events that cultivate a greater sense of agency, community, and engagement in the outdoors among women of color. Kriste has coached for Black Girls Run and led outings for organizations that include CitiWild and Outdoor Afro. When she’s not out adventuring along the trails of Colorado’s Front Range, Kriste is likely planning her next adventure over carbs in a local eatery. Her work has been published in Trail Runner Magazine, Outdoor Research, Altra Running’s Run Better blog, Outside Magazine, Elevations Outdoors, and others. She has been a featured guest on podcasts and virtual events that include Self Magazine’s Checking In, Run This World by Nicole DeBoom, The Shift Network’s Resilience Summit, The Nature Summit, Running for Real with Tina Muir, and others. Kriste is a proud Altra athlete and Ultimate Direction ambassador.H ow else can we give back?I f you are up for the challenge, pack an extra trash bag in your luggage. The Kili route is notorious for summit seekers leaving litter on the route. We will aim to pick up as much as we can along the way to do our part. Our packs may be heavier and our efforts more labored but our hearts will be lighter with the part we are doing for the environment and example we are setting for others on their journey.TRIP DISCLAIMER:A high level of fitness and prior hiking experience is required to join this adventure. The trek gains more than 13,000 feet in elevation over 6 days in high-altitude conditions. If you are unsure if this trip is right for you, please consult with a doctor before booking.TRAVEL INSURANCE REQUIRED: Due to the trek’s high elevations, our operator requires travel insurance covering high-altitude treks to be purchased before departure. L2S recommends World Nomad’s Standard Policy which covers treks up to 19,685 feet (6,000 meters): worldnomads.com. https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events7/banners/843345b0-4dfe-11f0-a985-8fd66d6cbfb2-rimg-w987-h740-dc5b605f-gmir.jpg https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events7/banners/846c7e20-4dfe-11f0-907c-5f59ee18afce-rimg-w1200-h676-dcbfc0bf-gmir.jpg https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events3/banners/84ecf8c0-4dfe-11f0-b5f2-832651b9e695-rimg-w1200-h676-dcffffff-gmir.jpg https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events7/banners/85285410-4dfe-11f0-907c-5f59ee18afce-rimg-w1200-h676-dc494746-gmir.jpg Agenda🕑: 02:00 PMDay 1: Arrival and city tourInfo: Arrival day!
