Grafting is the age-old practice of joining plants to specific root systems to get the desirable benefits of both parts. Learn the why's and how's for grafting and then do it! Participants will choose from modern and heirloom varieties to graft to semi-dwarfing rootstock and create 2 trees to take home.
All materials will be provided and are included with the purchase of class admission. Additional rootstocks & scion wood may be available for purchase while supplies last.
The workshop will be held in the Outdoor Education Center at Wheeler Historic Farm in Murray, Utah in 2 sessions: 10:00 AM - Noon and 1:00 PM-3:00 PM

Info: Extension Professor Mike Pace will give a short presentation that will explain the entire process for tree grafting from choosing rootstock and scion wood to planting outside. Students will then choose their scion wood and rootstock for 2 apple trees and graft them using the tools and supplies given. Students will take home their two trees with some soil to keep the roots moist and instructions on how to care for their new trees at home.
