The lecture traces the practices and stories of genderqueer and sexually non-conforming artists in Ukraine from the 11th century till nowadays, emphasising how desire itself becomes a claim to presence and recognition in a heteronormative society. We will see how Ukrainian queer bodies perform acts of political will, resist normative patriarchy and colonial oppression, and create new imaginaries and futures.   

Maria Vtorushyna (they/them) is a curator, researcher, and author with a particular interest in concepts of freedom, queer and feminist epistemologies. They conducted research at the Centre for Gender and Diversity at Maastricht University, and served as editor-in-chief of Artslooker magazine. From 2016 to 2022, they directed Kyiv Art Week as its director, worked at Künstlerhaus Bethanien, and in the international department of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. Maria Vtorushyna is currently pursuing a PhD at Europa-Universität Viadrina.

Der Vortrag von Maria Vtorushyna zeichnet die Praktiken und Geschichten von genderqueeren und sexuell nicht-konformen Künstler*innen in der Ukraine vom 11. Jahrhundert bis heute nach und betont, wie das Begehren selbst zu einem Anspruch auf Anerkennung in einer heteronormativen Gesellschaft wird. Maria Vtorushyna zeigt uns, wie ukrainische queere Körper Akte des politischen Willens vollziehen, sich dem normativen Patriarchat und der kolonialen Unterdrückung widersetzen und neue Zukünfte schaffen.   

Maria Vtorushyna (they/them) ist Kurator*in, Forscher*in und Autor*in mit besonderem Interesse an Konzepten von Freiheit, queeren und feministischen Epistemologien. They forschte am Centre for Gender and Diversity der Universität Maastricht und war Chefredakteur*in der Zeitschrift Artslooker. Von 2016 bis 2022 leitete they die Kyiv Art Week als deren Direktor*in, arbeitete im Künstlerhaus Bethanien und in der internationalen Abteilung der Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden. Maria Vtorushyna promoviert derzeit an der Europa-Universität Viadrina.

Лекція простежує практики та історії гендерних квір-художників і сексуально неконформних митців в Україні з 11 століття до наших днів, наголошуючи на тому, як саме бажання стає претензією на присутність і визнання в гетеронормативному суспільстві. Ми побачимо, як українські квір-тіла здійснюють акти політичної волі, чинять опір нормативному патріархату та колоніальному гнобленню, творять нові уявлення та майбутнє.   

Марія Вторушина (they/them) - куратори, дослідники та автори, які цікавиться концепціями свободи, квір- та феміністичною епістемологіями. Вони проводили дослідження в Центрі гендеру та різноманіття Маастрихтського університету, а також були головними редакторками журналу Artslooker. З 2016 по 2022 рік керували Kyiv Art Week як директоки, працювали в Künstlerhaus Bethanien та в міжнародному відділі Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. Наразі Марія Вторушина здобуває ступінь доктора філософії в Europa-Universität Viadrina.
