Einen mit Erfolgen gepflasterten, aber dennoch langen Anlauf hat die 36-jährige Christie Dashiell genommen, um in die Fußstapfen der großen amerikanischen Jazzsängerinnen von Sarah Vaughan bis Dee Dee Bridgewater zu treten und mit Samara Joy und Cécile McLorin Salvant um die Krone zu ringen. Als Tochter eines Bassisten und einer Gospelsängerin trat sie bereits als Kind im Familienensemble auf. Ihr Studium an der Manhattan School of Music beendete sie mit mehreren Student Music Awards des Downbeat Magazins. Gleich ihr Debütalbum „Time All Mine“ wurde 2016 von mehreren Magazinen zum „Album des Jahres“ gewählt. Sie wollte aber noch lernen, bei Größen wie Geri Allen, Esperanza Spalding, Teri Lynn Carrington, Marquis Hill, Marcus Strickland oder Immanuel Wilkins, war lange in der Band des Star-Vibrafonisten Stefon Harris und gehört aktuell zum Black Lives-Kollektiv. Erfahrungen, die sich auszahlten: Ihr zweites, von ihrer gereiften und unverwechselbaren, ebenso kraftvollen wie variablen Stimme getragenes Album „Journey in Black“ wurde für den Grammy-nominiert, sie wurde von Downbeat als „eine der innovativsten Sängerinnen und Komponistinnen dieser Tage“ geadelt, bekam den „Next Jazz Legacy“-Award und ist nun von den wichtigsten Festivals umworben. Jetzt kommt sie mit ihrer exzellent besetzten Band zum Jazz Sommer.
