The quaint and beautiful river town of Muncy once again is the setting for the Muncy His-torical Society’s annual Quilt &Textile Show. Slated for June 12-13, visitors will have the opportunity to view antique, vintage and modern quilts  and woven coverlets. This year the Show will be held in the cafetorium of the Ward L. Myers Elementary School, 125 New Street, Muncy. This location features easy access and convenient and ample parking. The show runs from noon to 6 p.m. on Friday, June 12 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 13. General admission is $8, with discounts for six or more guild members attending together ($6 per member).  

We've seen most of the quilts that will be exhibited, and as expected, the show entries are stunningly beautiful from the an-tique through to modern textiles. The quilts represent virtually all styles and techniques. And most importantly, this year's show commemorates America250. 

Always more than a quilt show, the show exhibits have been selected to appeal to all ages and young people are encouraged to attend. This event is designed to be a glorious, colorful, and educa-tional experience. There will be special exhibits, door prize drawings, and a massive fabric sale -- which includes feed sack fabrics and quilt tops!  Previously awarded Quilts of Valor quilts along with those yet to be awarded will also be on display.  

Now in its twenty-first year, the event will be a showcase of spectacular hand and machine workmanship, appliqué and other quilting techniques, reflecting the originality of the makers and their expertise with needle and thread, as well. The show is always “set” so that attendees can “step far away from the quilt to see the quilts geometric design and color patterns as a whole composition, or to stand inches away and observe the combinations of fabric, stitching, batting density and handmade variations.” 

A three-person panel will judge the quilt entries and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons will be awarded in the Quilt Challenge, Appliqué, Other Techniques, Use of Color, Hand Quilting, Domestic/Hand-Guided Machine Quilting, Computer-Guided Machine Quilting, Bed, Mini, and Wall Hanging, Youth, Modern, Art, Wearable Art, and Other Textile categories. The judges will award rosette ribbons for Best of Show, Best Original Design and Judge’s Choice. Friday show attendees will nominate their personal favorite for the Viewer’s Choice award. 

Continuing our America250 theme, this year's Challenge theme is “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.” This idea captures the idea that every person has to right to live, to be free, and to chart one’s own course toward fulfilling lifetime enjoyment of life and liberty – including acquiring and possessing property and pursuing and obtaining happiness and safety. Its interpretation is broad and defines just what is meaningful to the quilter. 

The Vintage Gatherers Quilters, in partnership with the Muncy Historical Society, and operating under the auspices of the Quilts of Valor® Foundation are making quilts to honor and gift to veterans and service members who’ve been touched by war. On Saturday at 1 p.m. members of the Vintage Gatherers Quilters will present quilts to veterans and/or active service members who have served stateside and those who have served abroad. 

Vendor Roberta Garlock of Simple Elegance will offer a variety of antique and vintage quilts along with a collection of miscellaneous textiles from Pennsylvania for sale. New to our show is Wooden Thimble Gifts by the Dickerson's -- bringing hand crafted wooden and sewn merchandise. Some items include quilt racks/hangers, candle holders, calendar racks, quilts, table runners, placemats, embroidered towels and much more.
