What's hand building? Everything that isn't wheel throwing is "hand-built" clay, so there is a world of possibilities! This 4-week course explores several methods of creating functional and decorative items using stoneware clay. Combine slab building, pinching, coiling, and drape/slump forms, plus discover ways to add texture and how to make strong connections in clay. Topics include common clay tools and terms, clay studio processes, and how to reclaim unused clay so nothing is wasted.
The class will all make a similar project to begin, then our instructor will introduce new techniques throughout the month and make recommendations for your next projects as you learn. Depending on the designs you choose, you can expect to have 3-5 pieces glazed and fired to keep.
Fired pieces will be dip glazed by our staff outside of class, and will be available for pickup approx 3 weeks after class.
Plan to get a little messy! Feel free to bring a lap towel or apron if you like, and we recommend that you trim long nails. Must be able to attend all 4 classes. Age 16+ only.
