The Ball State University Wind Ensemble led by Dr. LaToya A. Webb presents Journeys and Legacies—an evening of powerful music exploring change, transformation, and remembrance.
The program opens with David Maslanka’s Traveler, a vibrant work that captures the essence of life’s passages—moving forward with reflection, energy, and hope. Its soaring lines and rhythmic drive remind us that every transition is both an ending and a beginning.
Viet Cuong’s Deciduous follows, drawing inspiration from the natural cycle of trees shedding their leaves. Brilliant textures and colorful orchestrations illustrate how letting go can lead to renewal, portraying change as something fragile, yet deeply beautiful.
The evening culminates with Kimberly Archer’s Symphony No. 3 “For David Maslanka”. Written in memory of her mentor and friend, this expansive and heartfelt symphony is both a tribute and a celebration of Maslanka’s profound influence on the wind band world. Through moments of grief, gratitude, and strength, the work affirms the enduring legacy of one of the most important composers for winds in our time.
Join us for Journeys and Legacies—a concert that honors the past, embraces change, and looks ahead with hope.
