The Folk Aakhyan -Thane

Just as a the dialect changes every twelve kos (approximately 24 miles) in Maharashtra so too does the tradition style presentation and grandeur of folk art.The goal of the folk artists who carry the palanquin of this folk art on their shoulders isn`t merely entertainment.it`s about keeping Marathi values traditions and culture immortal having imbibed the elixir of oral tradition . Marathi folk art has survived for the centuries deeply connected to this land and the human heart however just as a civilization or culture can be destroyed by foreign invasion and become history the same picture has emerged for this folk art.The enchantment of some uncultured western art has spread over Marathi folk art and the minds of it`s people.As a result this folk art and it`s civilization is completely on the path of becoming history.

Is this the last generation of Marathi folk art and folk artists therefore choosing the path of Marathi narrative art and creating new compositions and tunes from `Gana` to ` Gondhal` a movement of young artists has emerged to restore the same honour respect and public patronage to Marathi folk art to enchant people with it`s authentic Marathi values and to serve folk art.This movement is "The Folk Aakhyan"-the style is old but the performance is New
