Shilonda Trail - A Super Easy Hike

Shilonda Trail - A Super Easy Hike

The monsoons are here and this makes it the perfect time to explore the trails inside Mumbai's very own national park.

The forest is bursting with small and big herbs within a few days of the arrival of the rains and the forest has undergoes the most vibrant transformations. A large variety of butterflies, insects and birds can be seen hustling and bustling everywhere during this period.

About Shilonda Trail
The Shilonda trail is SGNP's most popular trails in the monsoons. The quiet and peaceful trail initiates along the plains just before the Kanheri foothills and winds along gently to make for a good short hike.

This trail is one of the most pleasurable walks as it crisscrosses a small but a rapid forest stream at many points and wading across this knee-deep, crystal clear water is nothing less than therapeutic for a city-sick soul. This stream also offers amazing opportunities to encounter myriad life forms and some really quite and essential solitude.

Led by
Leading this trail is Wildlife Scientist Nikit Surve, a young and promising wildlife zoologist whose recent project in June 2015 on leopard census in SGNP made breaking news across the city.

With Nikit Surve's guidance and presence on this trail, one stands to experience and learn much in detail about the wondrous wildlife specifically in the SGNP forest. His deep understanding of the SGNP forest and its inhabitants will make this trial an enriching experience for any nature lover.

This trail is a perfect getaway to unwind from the chaos of the city and to explore the forest life on a easy level.

No.1 Rule of hiking is Pack Light
Grab a small to medium sized bag and put in items mentioned in our Essentials list.
The less heavy your bag is, the easier your trek will be.

A Sturdy Pair Of Shoes:
This is CRUCIAL as a bad pair could turn your hike into a nightmare. Check your shoes for possible wear and tear.

- 1-2 litres of water
- Snacks and munchies to keep you high on energy
- Personal Identification
- Personal Medic*tion if any (Please do let us know in advance about any medical conditions).

Sportswear is recommended (Jean/Loose clothes or bright colours are not recommended)
Ensure that you are comfortable in what you choose to wear and that the material does not restrict your movement while trekking and climbing.
Full clothing is recommended to avoid direct contact with plants and trees that might cause an itch.

TREK GYANN / ATTITUDE - Staying open minded, positive & faithful
A trek in the forest requires for one to stay positive and open minded at all times regardless of the situation. Mind you, this is not a picnic but a trek in the mountains. Mother Nature could choose for the weather and environment to be tough or easy on us. However, it is important for us to stay grounded and keep our heads over our shoulders, to not panic and to keep confidence in the decision of the trek leaders.
