Among the artefacts excavated in Mohenjo Daro and Harappa were handmade terracotta toys and figurines, hand-carved soapstone seals, painted pottery, hand-cast figurines in copper and bronze made using the lost-wax process, jewellery made with stone beads, and fragments of cotton textiles. All these indigenous crafts – stoneware, metalware, pottery and handlooms – continue to thrive in India, and have been influenced by techniques introduced from Persia, evolving into unique creations with a distinctively Indian identity.
