Returning for its second year, Night in Bethlehem: Gold Coast, invites local families and friends to wander through a whimsical ancient village, alive with sights, sounds and scents of the very first Christmas night.
This free community event, held in the heart of Mudgeeraba, transforms the grounds of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints into a living, breathing Bethlehem streetscape — lantern-lit and bustling with villagers, pesky Roman Soldiers, family activities at every “ancient” merchant stall and weary travellers from afar (be sure to grab a token coin to pay your taxes unto Caesar).
From the moment visitors pass beneath the Bethlehem city gates, they are swept into a sacred story more than 2,000 years in the making. The interactive pop-up village hums with life — goats graze near the ancient village, music fills the air and families can try their hand at pottery, carpentry and leather crafting. Children can join costumed storytellers, spin dreidels with new friends and learn ancient dances under a canopy of stars.
But as dusk falls, the scene softens. Visitors are invited to step inside the chapel for the heart of the evening — a live musical nativity that brings the miracle of Jesus’ birth to life through song and storytelling. Angels sing, shepherds gather and wise men journey beneath a radiant star to witness the humble beauty of the first Christmas night followed by both choir and audience singing Christmas carols.
