Recently, some of you participated in a petition process that offered feedback on the proposed improvements to the Austinville open space network, including parks and reserves owned by Council for public access. Some of you additionally participated in a community survey the city undertook on it’s GC Have Your Say web page, seeking feedback on the same, along with members of the broader Gold Coast community.

As you would be aware, the open space, parks and reserves of Austinville, as city assets, are not just for the exclusive use of Austinville Residents but are intended to be accessible and suitable for visits from people who live anywhere in the city and beyond.

Some of the feedback we received appeared to address concerns in the community about an unrelated tourism activity relating to the Nature Based Tourism program. That project has since been altered such that it omits any element that previously included Austinville. The Nature based Tourism program will proceed elsewhere, without those initially proposed Austinville elements.

The purpose of this information is to invite you to a community information session about the Day Use Area feedback, and next steps for council as we meet our obligations to provide facilities in city parks and open spaces. 

The session will be held on 14 September 2026, from 7pm to 9pm at the Mudgeeraba Community Centre, on Somerset Drive in Mudgeeraba. 

While we made enquiries about the suitability of Mt Nimmel Hall in Austinville, concerns were expressed that the hall may not be large enough to accommodate all people who participated in the survey or petition, and so the larger venue has been booked. 

I look forward to showcasing the survey feedback, changes to the Day Use Area plan, and answering any other questions that arise during allocated Q&A time.
