The Great Southern Bioblitz is back!
Join Watershed Landcare and the Rylstone District Environment Society (RDES) for a weekend of nature discovery as communities all across Australia and the Southern Hemisphere head outdoors to survey their local ecosystems. Together, we’ll shine a spotlight on the incredible plants, animals, fungi, and insects that call our landscapes home.
This is the power of citizen science in action—every photo and observation uploaded to iNaturalist becomes a valuable piece of data. From mapping species and spotting new arrivals, to tracking weeds and pests, and even shaping funding applications—your contribution makes a real difference to the health of our environment.
Whether you’re a keen naturalist, a curious beginner, or just love being outdoors, this is a fantastic chance to learn more about local biodiversity, sharpen your observation skills, and connect with others who care about our natural world.
Getting started is easy! Download the free iNaturalist app from the App Store or Google Play before you arrive. If you’re new to the platform, don’t worry—we’ll walk you through how to use it on the day. All you need is your smartphone, a sense of adventure, and a sharp eye for the wild and wonderful.
We hope to see you there!
