This special event will highlight Ohio’s outsized influence on American leadership and policy through its remarkable legacy of “Buckeyes in the White House.”

For generations, Ohio has stood at the center of American political life, earning its enduring title as the “Mother of Presidents.”
From the Civil War era through the early 20th century, an extraordinary number of presidents emerged from the Buckeye State.
Join us as we examine how these leaders shaped national policy, political culture, and the trajectory of the American presidency and why Ohio became a proving ground for presidential leadership during pivotal moments in our nation’s history.

This dynamic conversation will be led by distinguished scholars from across Ohio:
 - Dr. Joseph Klesner (Kenyon College) – Panel Moderator, discussing Rutherford B. Hayes
 - Dr. Wendy Singer (Kenyon College) – Discussing Ulysses S. Grant
 - Dr. Chris Devine (University of Dayton) – Discussing James A. Garfield and William Howard Taft
 - Dr. Margaret Sumner (Ohio State University) – Discussing William McKinley and Warren G. Harding
 - Dr. Margaret Newell (Ohio State University) – Discussing William Henry Harrison and Benjamin Harrison

Together, these published professors of history and political science will explore how Ohio’s presidents influenced Reconstruction, industrial expansion, party politics, constitutional development, and America’s emergence on the world stage.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a politics buff, or simply curious about Ohio’s impact on the nation, this promises to be an evening of thoughtful insight and engaging dialogue.
