These events are held in honor of Grand Slam champion and civil rights icon Arthur Ashe to grow youth participation in the game that he loved.Arthur Ashe changed the world and tennis by championing those in need and fighting against social injustice. Ashe filled a tennis career with countless accomplishments. As the first black man to win singles titles at several Grand Slams, Arthur Ashe laid the groundwork for making tennis more inclusive. Ashe became the first black man to be ranked No. 1 in the world and be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. One of his greatest joys was playing Davis Cup for the United States.Following his retirement, Ashe founded the National Junior Tennis League, encouraging youth participation across America and growing the sport even more.
