Bundle up and join HRRP for another fun and informative winter walk along the Hutchinson River, this time at the historical Split Rock trail. This is a short, moderate walk exploring the northern marshlands of Pelham Bay Park, with our destination being the legendary Split Rock. Discover urban legends, how a small river became a shipping highway, and the majesty of birds enjoying the last weeks of Winter in the Bronx.
This walk is a wonderful opportunity to connect with your community, enjoy the outdoors, and spend a refreshing winter day learning and exploring together. An invasive species removal and trash cleanup will take place in connection with this walk on March 21st.
Note that though this walk is short, the path may be narrow and overgrown in sections. Please wear long pants and long sleeves!
Then, on March 21, we're celebrating World Water Day by removing harmful invasive plants and trash along this beautiful section of the Hutchinson River that shows us how the natural environment and urban environment can coexist together.
~Street parking is available.
~BX23 & 0045 and a few other buses stop within a 10-20 minute walk to the location.
~We will provide water and a light snack, as well as sunscreen and bugspray.
~Please purchase a ticket for everyone in your group so we have an accurate headcount.
