Debra’s Story Chrome & Courage: Standing Strong for Debra Debra is a daughter, mother, friend, and a person who has touched the lives of so many people around her. She is also a fighter facing something most people have never heard of. Debra was diagnosed with anorectal mucosal melanoma, an extremely rare and aggressive form of melanoma. Unlike the more commonly known forms of skin cancer, mucosal melanoma develops in the mucous membranes of the body and can be incredibly difficult to detect and treat. Debra’s diagnosis changed her life and the lives of everyone who loves her. She is facing a disease that is considered incurable, while continuing to navigate treatments, uncertainty, and the physical and emotional challenges that come with cancer. Through it all, Debra continues to show incredible strength and courage. Debra is also a mom to a 12-year-old son. Her family and friends want nothing more than to see her have more time with the people she loves, make more memories, and continue being the strong woman she has always been. That is where Chrome & Courage comes in. Chrome & Courage was created by friends, family, and members of the community who want to surround Debra with love and support. What began as an idea to help one friend has grown into an opportunity for an entire community to come together. Cars, trucks, bikes, music, food, raffles, a silent auction, prizes, and fellowship are all part of the event—but the heart of Chrome & Courage is much bigger than any of those things. It is about Debra. It is about showing her that she does not have to face this fight alone. It is about raising awareness for anorectal mucosal melanoma, supporting Debra and her family, and helping ease some of the financial burden that comes with battling a rare and devastating disease. Most importantly, it is about courage. The courage to keep fighting. The courage to keep hoping. The courage to stand beside someone when life gets hard.
