- **Event Name**: Workshop 2 - The 17th Century *REVISED DATE*
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 28 Nov, 2026 at 10:00 am – Sun, 29 Nov, 2026 at 03:00 pm (+10:30)
- **Event Description**: The second of four mounted workshops held quarterly exploring prominent Classical masters century by century.

Guided by historical dressage specialist Katherine Evans, each workshop will have spots for both mounted and unmounted participants. The riding style and teachings of each master will be explored through patterns and exercises endorsed and used by the masters themselves. Participants are expected to collaborate as a group, to share their observations and feelings of what can be gained, how different horses negotiate the teachings dependent on body type, and what can be brought into our modern teachings.

In this second workshop, we will explore the 17th Century and delve into the teachings of:
- Pluvinel
- Newcastle

Incorporating history, culture and application to understand the context of the early teachings of Classical dressage, and to pave the way for the continuation of the series.

Whilst participants are encouraged to immerse into the styles and equipment of each period, there is no expectation to alter your personal training style/equipment. The emphasis will be on exploring the exercises of the time to see how and why they were beneficial.

Minimum requirements for workshop 2:
- Basic work in hand
- Moving away from the leg under saddle (established in lateral work is ideal, but all levels will benefit))
- Voltes

The expectation is to perform all maneuvers at a walk, however trot & canter are encouraged if horse and rider are at that level.

La Brida riding position of the time encouraged but not compulsory.

Participants (including unmounted) will receive preparatory notes and a workbook.

The second workshop will be held at Halado Park in Harrogate, SA on 5th & 6th September. Limited yards available by request.
