Jesse J. Richardson, Jr. is the Hale J. and Roscoe P. Posten Professor of Law and the Lead Land Use Attorney at the Land Use and Sustainable Development Law Clinic at the West Virginia University College of Law. Before coming to WVU, Mr. Richardson was an Associate Professor in Urban Affairs and Planning at Virginia Tech. He received his B.S. and M.S. in Agricultural and Applied Economics from Virginia Tech and his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
This program discusses landowner rights and responsibilities. Jesse Richardson recently updated and expanded the West Virginia Landowner Rights and Responsibilities booklet, which was originally written in 1979. The new booklet describes issues important to landowners and gives references to where more information can be found. Topics covered include trespass, fencing, right to farm, liability for persons injured on your property, and the open fields doctrine.
