This retreat goes beyond simple coping strategies—it’s an exploration of the workings of our minds and emotions. By examining how we react and how to channel our emotions constructively, we’ll discover that calm and clarity are not things we need to create. We see directly that they are our innate qualities, which we can uncover through practice. Through guided meditation and insightful discussions, we’ll explore the wisdom teachings found in Buddhist thought. With a kind, accepting awareness and curiosity, we can understand the intricacies of our mind and learn to disentangle ourselves from the deeper roots of suffering and distress. Guided by Irish born Australian Buddhist Nun Aileen Barry, the retreat will help you to engage more deeply with the mind. It becomes an offering to ourselves and to the group to experience our minds more honestly as we lessen our distractions and allow the mind to settle. In doing so, new ways of relating to the world can emerge from that place of stillness within. RETREAT VENUE Bundanoon Guest House Venerable Aileen Barry, originally from Ireland, travelled to Australia via India in 1993, where she first encountered the Buddhist teachings. Aileen has worked closely on His Holiness the Dalai Lama's visits to Australia, lived in India for eight years as assistant to renowned teacher Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo and worked with Australian Buddhist nun Venerable Robina Courtin in her prison work for several years. She has been guiding meditation practitioners for many years across a wide range of settings, including in dharma centres, community centres, prisons, the corporate sector, online groups and in third level education. She draws on a broad range of teachers and traditions, valuing the different perspectives they offer to deepen her understanding and experience of our innate qualities beyond any single teacher or tradition.
