If you're new here, The Comedy Writers Retreat is presented by The Comedy Writers Group, a community for comedians of all types and all experience levels.
The Retreat is an excuse to hang out, meet people, write, learn, develop, perform, and have as much fun as possible over a long weekend.
When?
23rd - 26th of January
Things kick off on the afternoon of the 23rd and wrap with a brunch on the 26th
You can come for the whole time, half the time, or even just a day.
Where?
We're staying at the iconic Pill Factory in Bundanoon, located in the Southern Highlands of NSW.
This is our third Summer Retreat, and our seventh Writers Retreat (including our Winter editions.) They're always popular and so much fun. I want this one to be our BIGGEST and BEST yet!
Who?
Everyone is welcome at The Comedy Writers Group. Every retreat we have people who have just joined the community alongside members who have been with us for years. We have stand-ups, sketch writers, improvisers, novelists, and even a poet or two.
The Workshops
These will be announced in the lead-up and always aim to cater to the interests of the participants. We will be covering areas like TV Writing, improv, and stage craft.
Special Guests
Special guests like Gen Fricker are being locked in as we speak. Last year we had Julia Zemiro, Dan Ilic, Bec Melrose, and Hayden Wright, so you can expect some impressive talent to join us in 2026.
Choose Your Own Adventure
Some participants come with missions to perfect their next festival show, others want to develop their next five minutes, some just want some dedicated creative time. Some come with no goal at all! That's fine too!
It means we get a weekend full of possibilities. It's up to you to build the weekend you want. An typical day at the retreat might start with yoga, before some morning writing, then a couple of workshops, before settling into the audience of a festival show preview, capping the night off with an open mic, who knows, maybe even some karaoke.
