OGFN is the only national network in the U.S. of protected, old-growth, native forests.Idler's Rest Nature Preserve, a 35-acre forest north of Moscow cared for by the Palouse Land Trust (PLT) since 2000, is home to a remarkable grove of old-growth western redcedar and Douglas-fir. In recognition of this unique natural area and its importance to the local community, the Old-Growth Forest Network (OGFN) has designated Idler's Rest as one of its Community Forests. This gathering celebrates that recognition and highlights how Idler's Rest is managed with old-growth forest characteristics in mind. With more than a century of history as a gathering place for the Nez Perce, homesteaders, scout troops, students, and neighbors, Idler's Rest continues to serve as both a community space and an example of thoughtful forest stewardship.
