Artist Bios Ishaan Kancharla, a sophomore at Research Triangle High School and a student of Smt. Sejal Vaidya, has been singing since the age of five and recently received his Diploma 1 from Bharatiya Vidyapeeth. A performer and competitor, Ishaan has won awards from organizations like the Veenadhari Institute and performed in venues such as UNC-Chapel Hill and Eva Perry Regional Library. In his free time, Ishaan enjoys listening to his favorite Hindustani classical vocalists, including Pandit Jasraj and Smt. Kaushiki Chakraborty. Outside of singing, Ishaan plays the Western flute and served as the 1st Chair in the North Carolina All-State Band. Preparing for his Bharati Vidyapeeth Diploma 1 exam, Ojas has performed extensively, accompanying classical vocals, Kathak, Sitar, devotional events, and even a Natak out of state in Delaware. He notably played Tabla for African songs at a Raleigh Symphony event and won county Reflections awards for composing original Tabla music on a social theme. Beyond Tabla, Ojas excels in FTC robotics, published artwork, and learning German and Marathi. Chaithanya Kolluri is a Raleigh-based Hindustani classical vocal artist and an active member of the Triangle community. She holds a Sangeet Visharad from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharv Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai, and is an enrolled artist with CCRT New Delhi and All India Radio, Hyderabad. Trained from a young age in Hindustani classical vocal, she has won accolades at several state and national youth festivals. She has also performed on international stages, including Bangkok, Thailand. Known for her expressive and soulful rendition of ragas, Chaithanya is passionate about preserving and promoting Indian classical music while inspiring the next generation through her performances and community involvement. Deepak Kulkarni comes from the cradle of Hindustani classical music - Dharwad in Karnataka and developed a deep interest in music at a very young age. He is trained in both Harmonium and Tabla instruments. Deepak has received training in the Lucknow Gharana style from Shri Debasish Choudhuri. He is receiving advanced training in Harmonium from Pt Vyasmurti Katti. He has performed solo and has accompanied artists in the US as well as several visiting artists from India. As a promoter of classical music, he is actively involved in organizing concerts for the younger generation in his hometown of Dharwad. He also provides training for young artists interested in learning the nuances of Indian classical music. Sandeep Hattangady has pursued Tabla for more than two decades, learning from eminent Tabla Gurus including Shri Prabhakar Betrabet, Ustad Shabbir Nisar and Pandit Mohan Balvalli. He has performed in India, UK and the United States, playing both solo and accompanying artists such as Pandit K Sridhar, Shri Anirban Dasgupta and Dr. M Narmadha among others. Based in Morrisville, Sandeep balances his musical interest in performing and teaching Tabla alongside his professional pursuits in the semiconductor industry. He has co-authored the book, TIHAAI, with his Guru Shri Prabhakar Betrabet for students of Tabla and music Sejal Vaidya is a highly accomplished Hindustani classical vocalist with advanced training in Mewati and Gwalior Gharana. She has given numerous stage and TV performances while receiving prestigious awards and accolades. She has achieved a high level of competence in Khayal gayaki and Haveli Sangeet under the able guidance of Pt. Niraj Parikh a senior disciple of Pt. Jasraj. She has been giving performances/ training for the last 17 yrs in US and currently resides in RTP area. Sujeet Phanse began his training in bansuri while in high school. He trained in bansuri and tabla under Late Pt. Malharrao Kulkarni in Mumbai. He performed and won prizes in many events, classical and non-classical at school and college level, including winning 2nd prize at the Maharashtra state level music competition in 1996. He has also received training in classical vocal from Shri Pritam Bhattacharjee in Atlanta. He has performed in several cities in the USA in a variety of genres -- classical, semi-classical, Bollywood, and fusion. Dr. Ajay Dholakia is a long-time Triangle resident. He comes from a family of Indian Hindustani Classical musicians and has been playing and teaching Tabla in the area for many years. He started learning tabla during his highschool days in Indore, India. He has played percussion and tabla with different rock, fusion and folk music bands. and has accompanied many visiting classical vocalists and instrumentalists.
