Let the Races begin: Morristown Parks and Recreation Hot Wheels Derby.
The City of Morristown Parks and Recreation Department is thrilled to announce the return of the highly anticipated Hot Wheels Derby. Join us on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the Talley Ward Recreation Center for a day of fun and friendly high-speed competition!
Event Schedule
• Check-in: 9:00 AM
• Races Begin: 10:00 AM
The Competition: Race enthusiasts of all ages are invited to test their speed on two unique courses: a thrilling gutter track and a precision timed track. To give everyone a fair shot at the winner's circle, racers may enter:
• Up to three cars for the gutter track.
• One car for the timed track.
Awards will be presented to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each age category.
Age Categories are as follows:
• 5 & Under (Includes special additional activities!)
• 6–12 Years
• 13–18 Years
• Ol’ Hot Rods (Adults)
The Classic Car Show: Our "Ol’ Hot Rods" participants are invited to do more than just race! Bring a classic Hot Wheels car from your personal collection to enter our Classic Car Show.
• Requirement: Please bring your classic car in a secure display case.
• Voting: Younger racers will vote for their favorites, with an award presented for “The Coolest Classic.”
“One of my favorite things about the Hot Wheels Derby is the interaction between the adults and the children,” says Program Coordinator Jennifer Gentry. To ensure all vehicles can compete, please adhere to the following specifications:
• Scale: All cars must be 1/64 scale.
• Fitment: Cars larger than 1/64 scale will not fit the track specifications and will be unable to compete on the timed track.
Pro Tip: Check your car’s scale on the bottom of the vehicle or the original packaging before race day!
