So what are the Rollright Stones? -
The Rollright Stones are one of the most famous prehistoric monuments in the Cotswolds, with lots of history, archaeology, and folklore attached to them.
The Three Main Monuments -
1. The King’s Men -
A stone circle of about 70 weathered limestone stones, dating to around 2500–2000 BC (Late Neolithic / Early Bronze Age).
The stones are small and lichen-covered, giving them a very mystical atmosphere.
2. The Whispering Knights-
A dolmen (burial chamber) from around 4000–3500 BC, making it one of the oldest parts of the site.
The stones are arranged like figures leaning together, said to be "knights plotting treason."
3. The King Stone
A solitary standing stone from about 1800 BC, possibly marking a Bronze Age cemetery.
Local legend says it was once a king turned to stone by a witch.
Other highlight on this hike include -
Chipping Norton -
A historic market town, often called "the gateway to the Cotswolds." Lovely stone buildings, shops, and pubs.
Salford -
