At our December meeting, we’re thrilled to feature our first Guest Writer: Andrew Preston. Andrew is a writer, producer, and musician from Van Lear, Kentucky. A featured songwriter with the International Bluegrass Music Association and faculty at the Appalachian Writer’s Workshop — and a 2020 Audioverse Awards nominee — he brings a wealth of experience to our community. His lyrics and poetry have appeared in Untelling Magazine and Discarded, a rural anthology. With eight albums and hundreds of performances across North America, Asia, and Europe, Andrew and his bandmates are key figures in Appalachia’s indie music scene.
During this meeting, Andrew will lead a songwriting workshop for students — a chance to gain insight into his creative process and gather tips for crafting compelling lyrics.
Whether you’re a young poet, songwriter, storyteller, or simply curious about creative writing — this is a unique opportunity to learn from one of Appalachia’s distinctive voices.
