A Visual Response to Appalachian Literature

The Appalachian Literary Arts Festival invites artists to submit original visual artwork inspired by Appalachian literature for this juried exhibition at the Rowan County Arts Center in Morehead, KY.

Traditionally, ekphrasis is writing inspired by art. In this exhibition, we reverse the process—artists create visual work inspired by literature rooted in Appalachian voices and experiences.

🎉 Closing Reception: August 28

Eligibility:
• Open to artists of all levels
• Adult and K–12 divisions
• 1–3 submissions per artist
• No submission fee

Each artwork must be directly inspired by a specific work of Appalachian literature and clearly list the title and author used as inspiration.
