🌟 Taking the Leap for Field Nurse 🌟
As my year as County Chairwoman of Lancashire Young Farmers comes to an end, I’m taking the leap—quite literally—to raise money for a charity that makes a real difference in our rural communities: Field Nurse.
Field Nurse supports the physical and mental health of farming communities by providing drop-in sessions with registered nurses at seven auction marts across Lancashire, North Yorkshire and Cumbria: Clitheroe, Gisburn, Brockholes, Skipton, Bentham, Otley and Penrith.
They offer basic health checks such as blood pressure and weight monitoring, and signpost individuals to the NHS or other organisations such as RABI and FCN when appropriate. Importantly, they provide a friendly ear and support to those struggling with issues like bereavement, stress and farming worries.
Field Nurse also attends agricultural shows and rural events, offering advice and blood pressure checks to help keep health at the forefront of busy farming lives. Many farmers find it difficult to access healthcare services or take time out of their working day, but bringing the service directly to familiar surroundings at local auction marts has proven to be an effective and trusted way to offer support.
The charity also delivers talks to Young Farmers Clubs and other rural organisations, highlighting the importance of looking after both physical and mental health.
Field Nurse has worked in partnership with Together an Active Future (a local delivery pilot for Sport England) and Bowland Fitness on the “Farming Longer 4 Stronger” campaign. This initiative focuses on preventative measures to help keep our farming communities farming stronger for longer. Field Nurse has been central to developing materials and delivering this vital work across the region.
So please support me as I jump out of a plane (yes, really!) to raise funds for this brilliant charity. 🪂
Every donation, big or small, helps and gives me that extra push to take the leap!
