The Dayton Bujinkan Dojo is holding its annual Shinnenkai (& mini Dai Komyo Sai!) Training Event & Celebration on the evening of Friday, January 30, 2026, and all-day Saturday, January 31, 2026.
What is a Shinnenkai? A Shinnenkai is a traditional New Year's celebration for the dojo, marking the start of training and goals for the coming year. What is a mini Daikomyo Sai? A mini-Dai Komyo Sai is the dojo's annual seminar and celebration honoring the Bujinkan founder, Hatsumi Soke, and the tradition's history.
The theme of the event is the use of the Kodachi (‘small tachi’, kodachijutsu, 小太刀術). Instructors will explore and guide participants on how to naturally move, defend, and engage while armed, emphasizing the essential principles of the Kodachi using Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. The movement of the generic weapon type shoto (‘short sword’, 小刀) and wakizashi (脇差) may also be included.
The event is reserved for young adult and adult members of the Dayton Bujinkan Dojo, past workshop participants, Bujinkan members, and approved guests. For more information or to register, visit www.daytonbujinkan.com/events/2026shinnenkai
