Cederberg Exp @ Jamaka Organic Farm, Tafelberg Peak Trail via Welbedacht Cave and up the Spout to Tafelberg (1969m) and up to the peak. This weekend away also includes the Wolfberg Trail above Jamaca Organic Farm and the Geelhoutskloof Hiking Trail -- Our Main Hike of the trip away will be the awesome Tafelberg Peak Trail. The trail will start at the Driehoek Guest farm and heads up via Welbedacht Cave and up the Spout to Tafelberg (1969m) and up to the peak. Tafelberg in the Cederberg is the second highest peak in the Cederberg and it also offers some stunnings 360 views towards Shadow Peak, Corridor Peak, the Wolfberg Arch and Sneeuberg Another bonus of the Trail, should there be snow in the area, it also falls on this this peak too. This weekend away also includes the Wolfberg Trail above Jamaca Organic Farm and the Geelhoutskloof Hiking Trail On our last trip to the Cederberg in June 2022, Tafelberg was also covered in Snow. Its always my aim to offer a different part of the Cederberg on each trip we explore a different part of this vast The Cederberg was proclaimed as a Wilderness in 1973. The 66811 ha of mountainous terrain is located in the Cape Floral Region only three hours outside Cape Town, but it feels like a different world. The Cederberg Mountains, burnt orange by iron oxide, dominate the landscape. #################### THE NEW HIGH-LIGHT WILL BE THE TAFELBERG PEAK TRAIL #################### The high-light of the trip will be the Tafelberg Peak Trail, which has also been on my Bucket list for a long time too. This trail is a 13.4km there and back trail. Truly a stunning hike with gorgeous landscape and scenery abound. Although featuring a good deal of elevation gain, the trail isn't too difficult. The path is well marked. The road to the parking lot requires a high clearance vehicle (though a 4x4 is not necessary). In our adventure we hope to be conquering the Cederberg’s second highest peak at 1969m, with being rewarded at the top by being surrounded by 360 degrees of wild Cederberg. On a clear day, one can see Table Mountain from the summit which is 170km away and if it is a clear day you can see Table Mountain in the distance. ===================== MORE ABOUT THE TAFELBERG IN THE CEDERBERG (Height 1969m) ===================== Tafelberg is one of the most recognizable mountains in South Africa. Although the name "Tafelberg" (meaning Table Mountain) is given to just about any flat topped mountain in this country, this particular one stands out. This peak is the second highest in the Cedarberg range, after Sneeuberg, 2027m, which lies opposite it across the farm valley. The Cedarberg range lies about 200km north of Cape Town, near the town of Citrusdal. The range is famous for its Cedar trees, which give it its name, and also the striking red sandstone rock formations scattered all around the area, notably the Wolfberg Cracks and Wolfberg Arch, The Maltese Cross, and Tafelberg itself. Tafelberg is comprised of a great block of sandstone about 140m high, which falls away to steep scree slopes below. Next to it is a smaller peak called The Spout (see pictures and see why), which requires a rock climb to reach the top. The great summit block looks impregnable from most angles, however it has a line of weakness which a competent hiker can exploit, a steep, rocky gully cutting into it from the "back", which terminates in a scramble aided by a fixed chain. There are also numerous rock routes on the south west face (the front face) of variable difficulties, and guidebooks are available for RD's. We will be staying at Jamaka Organic Farm in 3 x Self catering Cottages. The farm is situated only 230 km from Cape Town in the Ceder Mountains. Jamaka is situated on the farm Grootkloof, currently the only certified organic farm in the Ceder Mountains. Rooibos tea and various mango and citrus varieties constitute the primary crops of the farm. The accent in the steepest section would be like doing Kasteel Poort to the top of Table Mountain or a trail like Mont Rochelle Reserve Franschoek heading up via Du Toitskop Peak or a trail like Panorama Hiking Trail - Jonkershoek Nature Reserve. Some fitness is required for this trail, if in doubt please call. Please note the extended distance and we will be a quicker pace than normal. If you have down two of the walks in the past 12 months but have not walked in a while, ONE of your last walks needed to behave done in the past 6th Months before the event. As we are a hiking group firstly, the weekends away, are offered first to those that come more regularly This structure / qualifying requirement has been put in place, so that I can gauge your fitness levels and determine whether you will be able to cope with the hike on offer. The main reason for joining on hikes before booking for the event, is that you will know some of the regulars going Joining in on at one of the walks before the event, also enhances the sense of soulful connectedness, as you will know some of the people going. The weekends away offer a combination of adventure of soulfulness, relaxation, group sharing of the day’s experience and time out is allocated for quiet time. By joining a walk I also get a chance to meet you and you will get to know what is on offer in person. This weekend away will be suitable for moderate levels of fitness. Extra time on the trails on these weekends away provides time to connect with the beauty of nature, including plenty of opportunity for taking pictures. There is also own time allocated on these weekends to explore the beauty of place where we are staying.
