From this starting point, it follows a process of searching, tracing the remnants of a practice that sits outside of established fashion history.Through conversations with; collectors, makers, and historians, a broader picture of Melbourne’s garment industry emerges. Grounded in local production, independent design, and cultural change. As the search unfolds, garments are either rediscovered or reconstructed in collaboration with contemporary makers, bringing historical processes into the present.These works are then recontextualised through a photographic series and a printed magazine that draws on the visual language of 1970s fashion editorials.The accompanying documentary remains observational in its approach, focusing on material, process, and the act of looking. Rather than reconstructing a complete history, RAGTRADER considers how creative work is remembered, and how easily it can disappear.This event combines a cinematic screening including a Q&A with director James Morris. James will unpack his creative processes, sharing insight into how he created his Ragtrader project using Nikon's ZR & Z8.
