SHOW DESCRIPTION: In Torch Song – the two-act revival of Harvey Fierstein’s, Torch Song Trilogy – the life of Arnold Beckoff, a torch song-singing, Jewish drag queen living in New York City, is dramatized over the span of the late 1970s to early 1980s.
Torch Song follows Arnold’s odyssey to find love and happiness, but a visit from his overbearing and very Jewish mother reminds him that he needs one thing more: respect. Torch Song is a slice of the LGBTQ+ experience during a period of significant social change. It is considered groundbreaking for its positive portrayal of gay characters and their relationships, and its exploration of complex issues like gay-bashing, bisexuality, and adoption.
