# Event Details - **Event Name**: IN THE FLESH: 4 DAY SUMMER Sculpting Clay Bust and Hand - **Event Start and End Date**: Thu, 09 Jul, 2026 at 10:00 am – Sun, 12 Jul, 2026 at 10:00 am - **Event Description**: Inspired by the Venus de Milo. Practise your observational sculpting skills directly from life, on a 4 day sculpting course with Rebecca Westguard - in Johnshaven. • Get your hands on clay! • Study from life - 100% of the course. • Challenge your observational practice. • Accelerate your learning experience. • Relax and meet like-minded people. With Rebecca on hand to guide your progress, this course begins with a series of short observational sketches designed to familiarise the 360° features of the sitter. This is followed by a small 3D clay sketch of the of the head and a hand holding an apple. The remainder of the course concentrates on the creation of one fully formed bust and a hand/apple clay sculpture. A great opportunity to study proportion/scale of facial features and appreciate hand anatomy. Practice working armatures into position, hollow out and sculpt finer detail. The hand sculpture will symbolise the apple of discord which Venus won at the Judgement of Paris. This course takes place alongside students sculpting the full figure or torso. The model will be undraped. Sculpture will be left as greenware (unfired). £375 4 Day Course 09 - 12 Jul 2026 Thurs, Frid, Sat 10am-5pm, Sun 10am-4:30pm Tuition will be tailored to the level of each individual. Everyone is welcome. Complete beginners through to advanced. All materials, armature’s, tools and equipment provided. Choose from porcelain, terracotta or buff high quality clay.
