Sustainable Opulence is a creative practice that engage artists through the use of reuse, recycling and upcycling plastics and non-combustible goods into opulent headpieces, costumes and props for performance.
All items sourced will come from the CUCCR & CP3 and we will ensure there is enough for everyone to engage in the workshop.
As artistic forms like drag becomes more mainstream, there is an increase in the production of fast fashion versions of the fabrics, clothing, accessories, jewels, and wigs we use to express ourselves. With the increased vitriol towards gender expression, trans people, and drag performers in this country, it’s important for us to have spaces where we can gather outside of traditional queer spaces like bars and clubs. We want to provide our community with an opportunity to deepen connections to each other, while also gaining skills to become less reliant on traditional capitalist systems to build art and artistic expression.
