Vytautas Bucionis Jr. is an improvising pianist, composer and arranger of Classical training, but of a very multi-stylistic background and approach. Apart from contemporary classical music, He has devoted himself to Eastern European, Near-eastern and more recently Celtic folklore as well as different popular genres of a progressive nature.
Born and partially raised in Lithuania, he was already experimenting on the piano at the age of three and started his studies at the age of eight. Vytautas has arranged music with various Balkan and eastern European traditional ensembles since 2009.
Vytautas is currently pursuing his doctorate in composition at the Université de Montréal under François-Hugues Leclair and continues to arrange and perform Eastern European, Balkan, Anatolian, and Celtic traditional music with his several ensembles and by himself.
He is also working as a pianist and composer-in-residence for the immersive theatre company Au-de-là du visuel (beyond the visual) directed by Audrey-Anne Bouchard as well as in occasional contracts with other alternative theatre companies. In addition, as a birder and outspoken environmental advocate, he has been recently developing a style of composing with nature, where the musical material is derived from natural soundscape recordings that he would play along with, thereby joining the soundscape as a participant.
Vytautas proposes an approach in favour of a colourful music that is of an experimental nature while still being palatable to the casual listener. Each piece is intended to be an immersive, adventurous sound-walk or meditation.
He invites you to his instrumental crossover sound world, blending indie-pop, alternative rock and metal, modal jazz, synth-pop, contemporary classical music, world music from Eastern Europe, Anatolia and the Celtic lands, and, no less importantly, his inspiration of bird song and natural sounds.

The Pedals is an ongoing experimental project of local scenester veterans Greg Smith on treated guitar and Norman Nawrocki on modified violin. They focus on playing improvisational music created live. On stage, The Pedals loop and sample in real time, mixing up electronica and beats. Smith, also a longtime composer and sound engineer, coaxes and manipulates either distorted or richly melodic guitar vibrations through his layers of multi-channeled floor gear. Nawrocki, also a veteran composer, strums, bows, teases and samples his violin, transforming it into a soundboard workbench for sonic explorations. They also play together in the East European string ensemble, DaZoque!, and cofounded the indie jazz trio The Montreal / Manhattan Project with New York trumpeter Aaron Shragge.
