Dorsoduro - A night of Neapolitan song
The origins of Montreal, Italian song trio, Dorsoduro are in fact in the long running Bluegrass jam at the Barfly in that city, during the 2010’s. Classical tenor Nils Brown, a fan of North American folk music since childhood and Neapolitan song (think ‘O sole Mio!) in his youth, took the opportunity to sing there frequently while maintaining a busy international performing career in classical, buying a guitar in order to do so.. 

Surrounded by mandolins, a lot of talent with classical capabilities, and having thoroughly busked Neapolitan songs in Montreal and on a 2008 tour in Italy, he formed a band of choice players. One rare, hard to find album (sold only at shows), a CBC Live radio show, and several local shows later, and the band went “dormant”. 

Re-formed under the name Dorsoduro during the COVID era, with new, even choicer players, Mark Peetsma (Bass and Souzafone) and Peter Hay (Guitars and Mandolin), the band have played mostly in the Laurentians in the summer, but now decend the icy the trail  (Autoroute 15) down from the hills to play and sing the sweet sweet musica italiana for you, Neapolitan songs ancient and modern.

Don’t be surprised though to hear a famous Western song “Spaghetti” style, in full throated opera, or Rossini in Hillbilly style, accompanied by sides of Spanish songs, and a measure of Hank to wash it down!”
