Give yourself the gift of creating without fear.
Join internationally acclaimed watercolor artist Iain Stewart for a three-day immersive workshop in the heart of historic Old Alabama Town. This living history village, where 19th-century buildings line the streets and stories linger in the wood, offers an inspiring setting for artistic exploration. Start your creative journey through Lucas Tavern, and experience the “Living Block”—a collection of urban and rural vernacular structures that once served as gathering places for ambition, longing, and shared community.
Together, you’ll explore techniques such as wet-on-dry, wet-in-wet, and dry brush, while breaking down complex forms into their simplest geometry. Iain will share how he plans compositions, builds atmosphere, and edits scenes to express a personal vision.
“We are so good at adding detail by nature. We are rarely as adept at letting that detail go.” — Iain Stewart
The workshop encourages experimentation and discovery in a supportive, relaxed environment—where you’ll gain not only new technical skills but also a deeper connection to your own creative voice. Set amid Montgomery’s preserved architecture, this workshop combines artistic growth with Southern charm and history.
