Cet auteur-compositeur-interprète italien est né le 18 septembre 1964 à Florence. Enfant, il apprend le piano classique, mais se passionne en même temps pour la musique populaire. Dans sa ville natale, on peut souvent le voir à l'œuvre dans un piano-bar local.
En 1986, il rencontre le compositeur et producteur à succès Giancarlo Bigazzi, et réalise des arrangements pour Umberto Tozzi et Raf.
Sa carrière solo débute en 1990. Cette année-là, il remporte le prix de la meilleure révélation au festival de Sanremo pour « Disperato », une chanson qu'il a écrite avec ses collaborateurs habituels, Bigazzi et Beppe Dati. En 2004, il renoue avec le succès en remportant à nouveau des prix au festival de Sanremo avec la chanson « L'Uomo Volante ».
