Blessed Journeys Adventure Club & Walton County Master Gardeners

We are so excited to announce an exciting new partnership between Blessed Journeys Adventure Club and the Walton County Master Gardeners!

The Walton County Master Gardeners are part of the University of Georgia Master Gardener Extension Volunteer Program. Their mission is to teach community members how plants and gardening can improve our environment, health, and quality of life.

This is much more than a field trip!!! It is the beginning of an ongoing, hands-on gardening and STEM experience for our homeschool families!

Time: 10:00 AM–12:00 PM

🌼 During Our First Visit We Will...

Take a guided tour of the demonstration gardens.

Participate in a fun plant science activity by creating decorative "Sombrero Hats" that represent the different things plants need to grow. (All supplies are provided by the Master Gardeners.)

Learn how to read and understand seed packets, including planting depth, spacing, sunlight requirements, and growing seasons.

Plan our very own 4' x 8' raised garden bed, generously gifted to Blessed Journeys Adventure Club.

Together we will choose 3–4 cool-season vegetables to grow this fall from recommendations provided by the Master Gardeners. Possible crops include:
• Lettuce
• Kale
• Broccoli
• Bok Choy
• Cabbage
• Cauliflower
• Radishes
• Collards

Our planting choices will prepare us for our second visit the following day (SEPTEMBER 2nd- a separate event post is located here: )!

What to Bring (Sept 1st & 2nd) 
• Water bottle
• Small snack
• Closed-toe shoes
• Hat
• Sunscreen

Important Information

• Bathrooms are available on site.
• Please be respectful of classes taking place inside the building.
• Parents should escort children to and from the restrooms.
• This is a family participation event. Parents/caregivers are expected to remain with their children throughout the program.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Bee Boxes
There are managed bee boxes located elsewhere on the property for pollination purposes. They are not part of the Master Gardener program but are important to be aware of. Families with bee allergies should plan accordingly and bring any necessary medications, such as an EpiPen, if appropriate.

We are also waiting to hear whether a liability waiver will be required. If so, we will share that information before the event.

We understand that schedules can be unpredictable! While we encourage families to attend both kickoff events to get the full experience, we know conflicts happen. If you're unable to attend one of the days, please let me know in advance. We'll make sure to catch you up on what was missed so your family feels prepared to continue participating in our ongoing garden project.
