About the event

All About Bats
Join NCWF Union County Wildlife Chapter for an evening all about bats! North Carolina is home to 17 species of bats. Three of these species, the Virginia big-eared bat, gray bat, and the Indiana bat, are federally endangered. Many others are a species of greatest conservation need. Bats are aerial insectivores helping to keep populations of moths, mosquitoes, beetles, and other insects in check.

Dr. Shem Unger, Associate Professor of Biology at Wingate University, will provide a “brief” overview of his bat research and the importance of bats in North Carolina and also share his experiences collaborating with others to assess local bat populations.
