Auditions for "Murder on the Nile"

Seeking actors from diverse backgrounds, including all genders, ethnicities, ages, abilities, and identities.

Story: It’s the 1940’s and Kay Mostyn is cruising down the river Nile on a paddle steamer, the Lotus. Kay has led a charmed life, blessed with beauty and wealth. She embarks with her new husband, Simon, on a honeymoon voyage, down the Nile. These idyllic surroundings are shattered by a murder. There are a multitude of memorable passengers, all with a reason to K*ll. All characters have a reason to be a murder victim as well as a motive to be a murderer.

Please note that the ages mentioned are suggested CHARACTER AGES and are not necessarily the age of the actor. Most roles have an accent indicated, but please don’t let that stop you from auditioning. We may or may not use accents, or there may be indications of an accent. Also, some of the roles may require physical contact, some affectionate. If you are at all uncomfortable with that aspect, please notify the director at or before auditions.

Character List:

Kay Mostyn: ( Age range 22-35) wealthy heiress married to Simon, tragically becomes a victim of foul murder.
Simon Mostyn ( Age range 25-35): Kay’s husband, previously engaged to Jacqueline.
Jacqueline de Severac: ( Age range 22-35)Kay’s ex best friend obsessed with Simon and follows the couple
Canon Pennefather: ( Age range 45-66+) an imposing middle aged clergyman, Kay’s guardian and her father’s best friend.
Miss Helen FFoliot-FFoulkes : ( Age range 50+) wealthy, narcissistic, snobbish woman. Christina’s aunt and she treats Christina like a servant.
Christina Grant: ( Age range 25-40) Miss Helen’s niece, and a sweet, sensible young woman
William Smith: ( Age range 25-35) Wise cracking socialist with disdain for the upper class. He is smitten with Christina.
Louise: ( Age range 25-50) Kay’s French maid. Sly and conniving.
Dr Bessner: ( Age range 45-66+) Mysterious physician who claims to be from a small country in Europe. He specializes in mental disorders. He speaks some German.
The Beadsellers: (2 to 3; Age range 16-66+)Relentless and pesky peddlers aboard the boat.
The Steward: ( Age range 35-50) Serves as the ship’s greeter and primary server of passengers
McNaught: Captain of the Lotus (Age range 35-55) (may be played by one of the bead sellers)
Egyptian Police Official: ( Age range 35-55+) Makes a brief appearance at the end of the play without any lines. (may be played by one of the bead sellers)

Rehearsals begin on July 31st and run until September. The rehearsal schedule will be finalized after casting. Please bring any conflicts to auditions. Actors should be available for all of tech week and performance dates.
