Growing up in Lenawee County during the 1970s, Dan Cherry often heard in hushed tones about the destruction caused by the storms several years earlier. His aunt, uncle, and cousins were nearly killed when a tornado struck Hillsdale County near the Ohio border.

In the 1990s, Dan’s curiosity led him to begin interviewing surviving relatives and neighbors about their experiences. One conversation led to another, eventually resulting in his book Night of the Wind. Published in 2004, the book has sold nearly 5,000 copies and focuses on the impact of the outbreak in Michigan’s southern border counties.

Over the years, Dan has collaborated with the National Weather Service offices in Michigan and Indiana, as well as experienced weather researchers studying the Palm Sunday tornado outbreak. His research has been featured on radio, television, in print media, and in online publications.

Dan is a graphic designer who currently lives in St. Joseph County with his family.
