Overview
Not as scary as it sounds! This is actually a scenic hill walk just north of Moffat, around the dramatically named 150m deep, natural bowl-shaped hollow formed by the surrounding hills. From our starting point at a layby on the A701, the high-level circular route offers vast windswept views of the wild scenery of the Southern Uplands, once home to the notorious Border Reivers and much cattle rustling! Mainly gentle ascents and descents throughout, there is one short steep section up a grassy path to the summit of Annandale Hill, which is also the official start of the Annandale Way long distance path to the Solway Firth.
