MODESTO, CA- Modesto Junior College (MJC) is honored to welcome Jerry Tello, internationally recognized educator, healer, and community leader, for a special campus engagement focused on student retention, healing-centered practices, and culturally grounded support systems.Maestro Jerry Tello will be on campus Friday, February 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., engaging with students, faculty, and staff in a powerful gathering centered on belonging, resilience, and collective well-being. This program is open to the community.With more than 40 years of experience serving individuals, families, and communities, Maestro Tello has spoken to over half a million people and trained thousands of service providers nationwide. His work centers on transformational healing, men and boys of color, racial justice, and community peace and mobilization- critical foundations for fostering student persistence and success in higher education.Maestro Tello is co-founder of the National Compadres Network and currently serves as Director of Training and Capacity Building. He is the author of Recovering Your Sacredness and A Father’s Love, a series of children’s books, and co-editor of Family Violence and Men of Color. His work has also appeared through Scholastic Books and in national publications including Time, Newsweek, Latina, and Lowrider magazines.His numerous honors include the 2016 Maria Shriver Advocate for Change Award, the 2015 White House Champions of Change Award, two California Governor’s Awards, the Rotary International Ambassador of Peace Award, and the 2012 Presidential Crime Victims Service Award, presented by President Bill Clinton and Attorney General Janet Reno.In addition to his national and international work, Maestro Tello continues to serve families directly through the Sacred Circles Center in Whittier, California, and performs with the Sacred Circles performance group, dedicated to community peace and healing.
