Mobile Bay Kayak Fishing Association’s Winter Specktacular

Tournament Rules:

1. Participation and Eligibility. Participation is open to all MBKFA members (Free, Standard, and Premium). All participants represent that they are physically and mentally competent and fit and able to participate. By entering, all participants agree to assume all risks of personal injury, death, and damage to or loss of property and further agree to indemnify and hold MBKFA, its officers, members, agents, and sponsors harmless from and against any and all claims, liabilities, and causes of action resulting directly or indirectly from participation.

2. Registration is open. The registration is $45 for free and standard members and $35 for premium members and can be found on Fishing Chaos. Registration will close at 11:59 pm on February 20th, 2026.

3. Safe boating must be observed at all times. During competition each contestant is required to comply with US Coast Guard and Local Regulations including the possession of a PFD and sounding device. If you find yourself in an emergency situation please call 911 or channel 16 on a VHF radio.


 4. The tournament will run between 5:00 am to 4:00 pm on February 21th, 2026. 5. All entries must be submitted through the fishing chaos app.

6. Tournament format will be a length based CPR tournament consisting of a 3 speckled trout bag; total combined length.

7. ”Blackjack Speck” category pays out one spot to the trout submitted closest to 21” without going over. Any fish that breaks the 21" mark but does not cross the 21.25" mark is considered 21.0". Tie breaker will go to the first fish submitted.

8. Ketch (Original, X, Karbonate) Bump Boards are the only approved measuring device for this event.

● Fish must be facing left, belly toward angler

● Photo must show whole fish

● Mouth of the fish must be butted up against the vertical end of the board

● Mouth must be fully closed. 0.5” penalty will given to any entries judged as having amouth open 1⁄4” or more.

● Each fish may only be entered once. No duplicates.

No Fish Grips or Lures may be in the mouth of a fish in photo submission

You cannot cover the eye or mouth of fish.

Hand Placement must be on the center of the fish (Submit pictures without hand placement if possible.) No hand placement on the tail in the picture. 1/2" Deduction if Hand Placement is on the Tail.

Fish must be alive and fresh in photos.

No Assistance 

● Identifier must clearly be visible in photo.

● Anglers vessel must be clearly seen in background of photo

● A max length of 32” will be scored; even if the fish is longer than the measuring board

9. The use of mobile communications (cell, FM, VHF) is allowed and encouraged. Due to the lack of radio devices, the primary mode of mobile communications will be cell phones.

10. All contestants are required to follow high standards of sportsmanship, courtesy, and conservation. Any use of drugs, participation in criminal activities, or other conduct reflecting unfavorably upon our efforts to promote safety, sportsmanship, fair competition, and/or compliance with tournament rules are grounds for immediate disqualification and return of any prizes awarded.

11. All fish must be caught via hook and line. Both artificial and natural baits are allowed. All fish must be caught from the kayak, canoe or other paddle craft. No wade fishing or shore fishing is permitted.

12. Electric motors are allowed. Electric motor must be attached to the kayak in a safe manner for operation.. An electric motor used to propel a watercraft may not exceed the lesser of (a.) manufacturer’s labeled Maximum HP/Thrust Capacity, (b.) 3 HP, or (c.) 155 foot-pound thrust. c. Competitors must comply with all boating regulations pertaining to motorized kayak/electric-propulsion watercraft registration, use, and operating restrictions for the designated fishing area. Violation will result in disqualification from the event. No other vehicles to transport your boat on the water are allowed. Mothershipping is prohibited. Canoes and paddle vessels other than kayaks are permitted.

13. Fishing boundaries:  Mississippi River to the West and the Navarre Beach Causeway to the East.

14. It is permissible for more than 1 entrant to share the same paddle vessel. However each paddler/angler must be a registered participant.

15. All protests must be made in writing and delivered to a tournament official within 24 hours of the tournament end time. The MBKFA board of directors is the final authority in all considerations.

16. A waiver, release of liability, and covenant not to sue are part of the entry form. It is required that all contestants take responsibility for themselves while participating in event activities. By registering for the tournament you agree

17. Rules interpretation is exclusively left to the Tournament Director. The decisions of the Tournament Director are final in all matters and are not subject to appeal.
