5 days Figure Sculpting workshop with model

The immediacy of the model’s presence encourages close observation and instinctive decision-making leading to work that is expressive and real. This hands-on interaction brings a sense of movement and authenticity that’s hard to achieve otherwise.

The sculpting process typically starts by analyzing the model’s proportions and pose. A wire armature is built to support the structure and clay is gradually applied to develop the form to a one-third life size 750mm tall figure. From there the artist refines the shapes focusing on anatomical accuracy and expressive detail that give the sculpture its final character.

With nearly 30 years of experience in traditional sculpture and the film industry Javier is not just a sculptor — he’s a mentor. Trained in classical techniques he studied fine arts and took anatomy courses at medical school developing a rare combination of artistic and anatomical knowledge. He spent over five years at the world-renowned Weta Workshop contributing to major films and exhibitions and has worked across materials scales and digital technologies.
