September Guided Heritage Walk - Cranham

Join us for an easy three and a half mile walk around some of the interesting sites of Cranham. We start and finish at the Thames Chase Forest Centre, Broadfields Farm, Pike Lane, Upminster RM14 3NS (parking available) at 10am.

We will walk across fields and visit Cranham Church, where we shall receive a short talk on the history of the church. It is a listed Victorian Church in gothic style including a memorial to General Oglethorpe, founder of the American state of Georgia. We will walk around the area and discover Cranham Hall, the old stables and farm buildings. We then walk around Cranham Marsh Local Nature Reserve, a combination of woodland, wet meadow and marsh, before returning by a circular route to the Forest Centre by 1pm where the Forest Centre Tea Room will be available. An excellent route, with plenty of history to discover!

The walk will be largely on footpaths with just a very short stretch of road walking. The paths can be a little muddy after heavy rain but (weather permitting) are expected to be dry at the time of this walk. There are no significant gradients, just one set of steps and a road bridge over the Ockendon railway line.

This walk is suitable for adults only. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
